Bay Leaf Mashed Potatoes

Give your mashed potatoes a bit of punch with the savoury taste of bay leaves.

All You Need

  • 3 lbs (1 7/20 kg) russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 2 McCormick Gourmet 100% Organic Bay Leaves
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) salt
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) McCormick Gourmet 100% Organic Ground White Pepper
  • 2/3 cup (150 mL) hot milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter, cut into chunks


  1. Place potatoes and bay leaves in 4-quart saucepan. Add water to cover. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are fork tender

  2. Drain and return potatoes to pan. Remove bay leaves. Add salt and white pepper. Mash with potato masher, gradually adding milk, then butter. Serve immediately

  3. Chef’s Tips: For even more flavour, use Kitchen Basics Original Chicken Cooking Stock in place of water to cook potatoes.
