Herb and Cheese Quick Bread

This easy peasy bread is a no-knead recipe that is chock-full of fragrant herbs and flavour.

All You Need

  • 2 cups (500 mL) all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Club House Onion Plus Signature Blend
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) EACH baking soda and salt
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) grated old cheddar
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) McCormick Gourmet Sage Leaves or Club House Oregano Leaves
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) Club House Crushed Red Pepper
  • Pinch Club House Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 cup (250 mL) grated old cheddar
  • 1 cup (250 mL) buttermilk
  • 4 tbsp (60 mL) melted unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) grated old cheddar


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and line 9- x 5-in (2 L) loaf pan with parchment paper leaving overhang on two sides.

  2. Whisk flour, Onion Plus, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sage, red pepper and black pepper in large bowl. Stir in 1 cup (250 mL) of the cheese. Whisk butter, egg, and buttermilk in another bowl and stir into flour mixture until just combined.

  3. Pour into prepared pan, smoothing top. Sprinkle remaining 3 tbsp (45 mL) cheese over top and bake until golden brown and toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean, 35 - 40 minutes. Cool.

  4. Tip: Cube or crumble leftover bread and toast for the ultimate bread stuffing.

  5. Tip: Bake in 8-in (2 L) square pan for an easy serving of cheese bread squares.

  6. Tip: To make a quick buttermilk, stir 1 cup (250 mL) milk with 1 tbsp (15 mL) distilled white vinegar and let stand 10 minutes.
