Chocolate Puffed Squares

Commonly referred to as Puffed Wheat Squares in western Canada and United States, this quick treat satisfies the kid in everyone and disappears as quickly as it’s made.

All You Need

  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) organic coconut oil or unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) packed organic brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) Billy Bee Organic Honey
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) organic cocoa
  • 3/4 tsp (4 mL) Club House Organic Ground Cinnamon
  • Pinch Club House Sea Salt Grinder
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) McCormick Gourmet Organic Pure Madagascar Vanilla
  • 4 cups (1 L) organic puffed millet or puffed wheat cereal

Instructions

  1. Line an 8-inch (2 L) square baking pan with parchment paper, with overhang on two sides. Set aside.

  2. Melt oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar, honey, cocoa, cinnamon and salt, stirring. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Add millet, and stir until evenly coated.

  3. Pour into prepared pan, pressing evenly with bottom of spoon. Let cool 15 minutes before cutting into squares.

  4. Kitchen Tip: Mix in sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds for the nut lovers, creating a snackable trail mix square.

  5. Kitchen Tip: Double coconut: Add shredded unsweetened coconut into the puffed wheat mixture for double coconut fun.
